Frequently Asked Questions

-
How often should I meet with my therapist?
The general recommendation is to meet weekly at the start of therapy; this provides the most consistency and continuity between sessions, and in our opinion, is correlated with the strongest outcomes early-on. However, individual needs vary, and you and your therapist can meet as often as you feel is appropriate for you.
-
Do I need a formal diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism to recieve therapy?
There is no requirement for a diagnosis of any kind to work with Think Different Therapy. However, assessment & diagnosis is often required for receiving accommodations through work or school, plays a role in medication prescribing, and can offer important insights into your therapy. Your therapist can discuss whether assessment may be right for you.
-
How do I access my sessions?
Video sessions can be accessed through our virtual care platform, Jane. You will receive an email link to our virtual waiting room, which can be accessed up to 30 minutes prior to your session. Your therapist will begin your session at its scheduled start time.
For phone sessions, you will receive a call at the number you provided during intake at the scheduled start time of your appointment.
-
How do I bill sessions through my insurance?
Our services are covered by most major insurance companies. For all clients, we utilize direct billing, which is the most efficient for everyone involved. You can then submit your receipts to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Our services will most likely fall under ‘psychotherapy’ or ‘counselling’ in your coverage. Please contact us if you have any issues submitting to your insurance, or are unsure if you are covered.

Can I be a part of my child's (of any age) therapy?
Family is an important part of the work we do, and we strive to align clients’ goals with that of their family’s. Another important aspect of therapy is confidentiality, which we are legally and ethically bound to maintain in all therapeutic relationships. If you have specific concerns about your child’s therapy, or want to know how you can best support them, please let your therapist know and this can be discussed more in-depth.
